Why Are iPhones So Expensive

Apple is one of most famous technology companies in the world. They are mostly recognized for selling iPhones. But often it becomes difficult for a customer to buy an iPhone if his budget is limited & he expects to buy a phone which will fulfill all his requirements within his limited budget range. At that moment iPhone is excluded from his priority list for being so much expensive. That question comes in the mind often why they are too expensive. There are certainly some valid reasons behind that.

Excellent Building Quality

One of the main reasons of an iPhone being so expensive is that it’s build quality is very superb. An iPhone gives a premium feel when anyone holds that. It has a stunning look which catches the eyes of so many customers.

High Manufacturing Cost

You may not feel from outside how Apple emphasizes a lot on the manufacturing of iPhones. High class display, sensors, memory, interface etc used in the iPhones which make them perfect mobile phones. According to Statista, the manufacturing cost of iPhone X is about $370

Better Security System

Apple assures the customers about the security system of their iPhones. Now-a-days information hacking is a major concern for the mobile phone users all over the world. iPhones are run by iOS operating system which keeps the personal data of the users private & ensures a strong security system. Besides, Android has the largest market share in the whole world.

So the cyber criminals or the hackers like to target the android phone users to take away their personal data. Android phones are attacked by various types of malware & virus too which makes the security system of Android vulnerable too comparing with iPhones.

Apple Ecosystem

Apple devices are famous for the excellent ecosystem of Apple company. The ecosystem helps to get you connected with every product of Apple you use. It allows you to enter into the different features & apps of the Apple company such as iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud etc.

A regular update of the iPhones & continuous upgrade of iOS system of them bear a great impact on the price of the phones. It is difficult to say anything about the actual price of the Apple ecosystem but there is no doubt that the greater wage scale of the workers, software designers, app developers of the company certainly initiates to increase the price of the iPhones.

Fast & Efficient Processor

The processor of a smartphone is an important part which determines the performance of it. Performance of a smartphone’s processor can be tested by overlooking the benchmark. iPhones made by Apple company gain huge point in the benchmark test whereas other android devices find it very difficult to get close to the benchmark point of an iPhone.

It is said that Apple is always two years ahead of other android companies considering much improved chips which keep them ahead of other competitors in the mobile selling market. Besides this, Apple company prefers to spend money on extra silicon space as L3 & L4 caches are used in most of the iPhones whereas L1 & L2 caches are used in the android phones.

Apple likes to maintain better ram management & so instead of having less ram, iPhones are much more efficient & reliable.

High Advertisement Cost

Apple company believes that innovative & eye catching advertisement can attract the customers to buy their products. That’s why they invest a lot regarding their advertisements published in newspapers, different social media platforms, websites etc. Apple prefers to use their brand value & spends a lot for the marketing & advertisement of their iPhones.

No Compromise with Profit

Apple is one of the most profitable companies of the whole world. There can be many more rivals of them in the mobile selling business such as Huawei, Xiaomi or Samsung, but Apple is certainly on the top of all the mobile companies. After the release of iPhone X which costs £999, according to a survey, Apple earned an estimated profit of about $20.1bn (£14bn) in the final three months of 2017.

It can certainly be said that Apple produces iPhones for those customers who need the security system of their phones very preserved, don’t want to change mobile phones regularly & prefer to have mobile phone with premium look & design. If you can afford to buy an iPhone & it can fulfill all the requirements what you would like to have in your mobile phone, you should definitely go for it.

The Prodigious Xiaomi Redmi Y3 : ‘Super Selfie’ enabled

Xiaomi has been setting up its trend of inception of affordable budget smartphones. The company has been performing well in its smartphone sales.

Recently released, Redmi Y3 is the new addition in this segment. The smartphones comes off with two sets of features and price range. One being the 3GB RAM and 32 GB Internal Storage and the other with 4GB RAM and 64 GB Internal storage. Redmi calls its protective plastic on the backside as its aura prism design. It uses a highly endurable Gorilla Glass 5 Protection. The display size is 6.26 inches (15.9 cm) bezel-less display with waterdrop notch.

The front side of Y3 has 32MP selfie camera . The pictures captured on it have good sensitivity and resolution. The rear camera has 13MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary depth sensor. One of the best features of this phone is the IR blaster that comes with inbuilt infrared sensor for controlling some home appliances like TV, air conditioner etc.

The smartphone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 octa-core chipset and runs MIUI 10 with Android 9 version. All the apps can be accessed within 2-3 seconds and doesn’t take much time. The MIUI operating system works well and easy to navigate.

Redmi Y3 has a prolonged battery life and can remain active for one and a half day . However, it doesn’t support fast charging . It generally takes 2 hours for full charging.

Another difficulty of Y3 is that it doesn’t support Type C. It comes with Micro USB support though. The headphone jack is 3.5 mm and the audio quality is satisfactory.

Within its price range, the features enabled are quite convivial and worthy. If you plan to buy the new Redmi y3 for a better selfie camera, I prefer you to go for it. The ever evolving smartphone world surely have no bound in expanding its horizon. Each day it’s coming with something new that is shaping our world of smartphones and gadgets, changing our way of viewing things differently. Like the notch in previous year, folding phones are the upcoming trend for 2019 and smartphone tech giants are competing each other to win the attraction of the customers. They all come in different design or ways. Here are some of the best folding phones that has caught our eyes.

Samsung Galaxy Folding

Samsung has always proved its supremacy over the tech world and it’s not so different here as well. They clearly astonished everyone by revealing their new Samsung Galaxy Fold alongside Samsung Galaxy S10+.Although it is going to be quite expensive, people still have their eyes on it. It is said to be 1,980$ as initial market value which in 1,515£ in Europe.

Samsung said this handset will come with plenty of tech inside. Such as, a high-end processor, a screen of 7.3 inches of dynamic infinity flex full HD AMOLED display in full tab display,12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. Samsung went for a big jump in the camera section this time. There’s going to be a triple-lens 16MP+12MP+12MP rear camera, and a 4,380mAh battery split up into two sections to balance the weight equally on both portion.

Huawei Mate X

The Chinese tech giant is second to none. It is now going head to head with brands like Apple and Samsung. Not late after Samsung’s announcement, Huawei released their new eye catching smartphone with folding capabilities. This phone’s price is going to be little higher than its Samsung counterpart.

Huawei Mate X; Image Source:

It is said to be 2000£ in the market value. That’s almost 500£ more than the price of Samsung Galaxy Fold. It will feature its new chipset Hi silicon Kirin 980 with 8 inch display on it when you stretch it to a full size tab. It will fold from outside unlike its Samsung counter-part. If you have enough money, you sure can go for this one.

Motorola RazrV4

Remember that iconic foldable sets Motorola realized in the java era? Motorola is bringing that look to live again. It’s newest folding set is going to have that same look except it’s going to be a modern android smartphone. Yang Yuanqing, the CEO of Lenovo (which owns Motorola) told TechRadar:

With the new technology, particularly foldable screens, I think you will see more and more innovation on our smartphone design. So hopefully what you just described [the Motorola Razr brand] will be developed or realized very soon.

Motorola RazrV4; Image Source:

Unlike other foldable phones, it is not going to take the form of a tab, instead it will take the form of a full sized smartphone in full stretching. This phone will have screen on both sides including a mini screen on the outer side and the full main screen inside. Not much can be said just now but it is also a smartphone that you can look up to.

Xiaomi MIX Flex

You can’t expect the current smartphone world without Xiaomi. Just like other smartphone companies, Xiaomi has shown its interest to enter the world of foldable smartphones. At least this is what we can understand from a prototype device that was famously shown off on camera by company president and co-founder Lin Bin.

Xiaomi MIX Flex; Image Source:

In that video a device was shown like a tablet that folded on two line making it a three part device. In the folded state, only middle part formed the body of the mobile while the rest was folded back. Lin Bin wrote that:

“Xiaomi double folding mobile phone is coming! This symmetrical double-folded form perfectly combines the experience of the tablet and mobile phone, which is both practical and beautiful. Although it is still an engineering machine, it is sent out for everyone to see. If you like it, we will consider making a mass production machine in the future”. Although we don’t know anything more about its release but that is surely another set that we are gonna keep an eye on.

As an emerging tech giant, Oppo don’t want to fall back behind from its other counterparts. Taking this into account, Oppo has also made a prototype of folding phone.

Information about that set is not known to us currently but it looks very similar in design to that of Huawei mate x. It will feature 5g network and other capabilities that can only be revealed when the smartphone company officially introduce the handset to us.

Astonishing Downfall story of Nokia Mobile Phones

Once upon a time Nokia mobile was so familiar to all of us in the 90s & early 2000s. Nokia was regarded as the most famous mobile company in the whole world. But since then, its’ reputation started to fall down whereas mobile companies like Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi have paved the way of selling their mobile phones. There are so many reasons which played a vital role in the downfall of Nokia’s mobile selling business.

The Introduction of iPhone

iPhone was first launched in 2007 by Apply company. Nokia was still ruling the mobile phone market then. But Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple knew very well how to attract the mobile phone users. He emphasized on the design, build quality & most importantly on the security system of iPhone which enchanted the users a lot. He understood the demand of the users & his plan to introduce new iPhones with more exclusive features & appealing look brought a revolutionary change in the mobile phone market.

In 2011, for the first time, Apple overtook Nokia to gain the first place to sell the mobile phones. The innovative business strategy to catch the eyes of mobile phone users became successful by iPhone which made the business of Nokia very dull.

Touch Screen Option in Symbian System

When android was first launched in 2008, it’s attractive features grabbed the attention of so many people. But Nokia still had enough trust on Symbian system & so they didn’t switch to Android operating system. Symbian system was a decent option for non-touch screen phones but it did not get suited with the touch screen phones.

It was already an outdated version & users were finding Android system much friendlier than Symbian system. That’s why mobile phone users preferred Android system than Symbian system & Nokia could hardly survive in the business.

Lack of Business Strategy

In this competitive mobile selling market, having exclusive business strategy is very important. Nokia was way behind than others in this case. They failed to target a particular category of mobile phone users in the market. Samsung targeted the mid range market, Apple targeted the high range market. But Nokia was average in all the cases. It didn’t have exclusive features like Android system, rather it was costly too. So people preferred to buy other phones & Nokia lost it’s honorable place in the mobile industry.

Lack of Vision Among the Top Ranked Officers of Nokia

Even though Nokia had been suffering from a huge downfall, the company had such egoistic top ranked officers who were stubborn enough to maintain their opinions & didn’t move from there. Some of them were afraid of revealing the truth that Nokia should change their business strategy but they couldn’t do so as they might be fired any time. Many of them didn’t have enough potential to compete with other mobile phone companies & so they faced such a big failure.

Appointing a Non-Finnish CEO

Nokia appointed Stephen Elop as the CEO in 2010 who was the first non Finnish CEO of Nokia. But it turned into a controversial decision as Nokia is a Finnish company & so the appointment of Elop wasn’t welcomed by the people of Finland. Besides, when Elop was in some infamous companies like Adobe & Macromedia, his reputation was not anything praiseworthy there. So he wasn’t the right person to lead Nokia at all.

Former CEO Stephen Elop ; Image Source :

Decision to Make Windows Lumia Phones

After a lot of failure initiated by Symbian system, Nokia decided to do something new. That’s why they made a plan to introduce Windows operating system in the new Lumia phone series. But still Nokia failed to persuade customers to buy their phones. Sony was famous for music system, HTC was all about its’ display, Apple was all about its’ fame & reputation & Samsung was demandable for its’ all round performance.

But unfortunately Lumia phone was nowhere near other companies considering the features. That’s why Window based Lumia phones also made a big failure in the mobile market.

Nokia Lumia Phones; Image Source:

After a lot of failure, Nokia is still trying to rise in the mobile selling market. Recently they have launched some classic android phones like Nokia x6, Nokia x7, Nokia 6.1 plus, Nokia 7 plus etc. Comparing with other companies such as Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi, Nokia android phones are still struggling in the market. But if they can come out with some innovative business ideas & implement them properly, they might shine again in future.

The Dramatic Rise and Business Strategy of Xiaomi

The use of mobile phone among the users has increased rapidly in the last decade. With the increasing demand of mobile phone, a lot of mobile phone companies have been set up all over the world. But only a few of them have been able to survive in the industry. If we mention some of their names, Xiaomi will surely be one of them.

Xiaomi, mainly a Chinese electronics company but they are mostly recognized for their smartphones. The first smartphone of Xiaomi was launched in 2011. Since then, the company has launched a lot of smartphones with lots of varieties & specifications. Different companies have different policies to bring profit in their business. Xiaomi is unique in this case for so many reasons.

Less Advertisement Cost

Comparing with other mobile phone companies, Xiaomi spends very less than others for advertisements of their brand new smartphones. Companies like Samsung, Apple, Huawei spend a heavy amount of money for the marketing & promotion of their recently launched phones whereas Xiaomi doesn’t bother about these issues. They have their own mobile phone stores and they prefer online sale and use social media platforms for the promotion of their products.

That’s why if you walk on the road, you will not see any billboard of Xiaomi smartphones. If you switch on the TV, you will hardly see any advertisement of Xiaomi phones there. If you read newspaper, there is no advertisement of Xiaomi.

Xiaomi model 9; Image Source:

Innovative Business Strategy

Xiaomi maintains such a significant business policy regarding the demand of the customers. Xiaomi has targeted the Asian smartphone customers who prefer to buy mobile phones having decent specs at a much cheaper rate. They build phones for middle class people of the world who want a smartphone with upgraded specs but obviously at such a price rate which they can afford. Xiaomi highlights this issue of middle class people deeply.

Customers in Xiaomi Showroom ; Image Source:

Less Profit & More Customers

Xiaomi emphasizes on the economic ability of the customers. They have been launching smartphones with high end specs at lower price rate than other smartphone companies. Users welcomed that business idea of Xiaomi and they started to get attracted to Xiaomi day by day. If you compare a smartphone of Xiaomi with another smartphone having almost same specs, you will find the Xiaomi mobile much cheaper than the other. By persuading more customers, Xiaomi is covering up the rate of their profit.

Market share of Xiaomi ; Image Source :

According to a report of  Xiaomi corporation published in 2018,

  • Net Profit: $2.1 billion
  • Total Revenue: $6.6 billion
  • Phone Sales: $4.5 billion (67% of all revenue)
  • TV and Fitness Bands: $1.5 billion
  • Internet Services: $585 million

Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun has made it clear that they keep hardware margins at 5%

Release of Limited Quantities Initially

Xiaomi is very careful about taking risks. That’s why when they launch a new smartphone, they only release those at a minimum rate through their official stores, and online marketplaces such as Flipkart, etc. For the release of such amount, customers who eagerly wait for a new one, give pre-orders which increase the demand of the smartphone later when the stock goes out soon.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun; Image Source:

Customized MIUI

Xiaomi is also famous for the MIUI which is regarded as the modified version of Android operating system. It is different from the stock android in so many ways. Though stock android provides the users with less advertisements and malware issues, sometimes people may get bored to use this whereas Xiaomi has MIUI rom which is enriched with a lot of features. Those attractive features attract the customers a lot. That’s why people who want their smartphones to have varieties prefer the MIUI of Xiaomi.

Overpriced Competitors

It’s not only about the business strategy of Xiaomi, the competitors of Xiaomi have always been overpriced regarding their products. Reputed companies like Samsung, Apple keep the price of their phones high to cover up what they spend on the advertisement, hardware cost & other costs. Galaxy S9 of Samsung is sold at $900 or iPhone X of Apple is sold at $1000. All these phones hardly take 300$-400$ to make. As they have to concentrate on the brand value, promotion & marketing too, their smartphone price automatically gets higher than Xiaomi.

An iPhone 10 & Xiaomi mi6; Image Source:

Xiaomi is currently holding estimated 29.7 percent of the Indian smartphone market in Q2, according to IDC. It’s main competitor Samsung is just behind them with 23.9 percent whereas Vivo (12.6 percent) and Oppo (7.6 percent) are trying to raise their business. There is no doubt that if Xiaomi maintain their business in this way, they will soon arrive in the list of top brands of the world.
